Radical Health Alliance Mission, Vision, & Values
Mission
Radical Health Alliance champions the multidimensional and weight-inclusive health of fat people in Minnesota. Through education, support, and advocacy, we strive to eliminate weight bias, increase access to health services, and protect people from weight discrimination.
Vision
We envision a world of fat liberation where fat people of all races, genders, ability levels, and orientations have agency and autonomy over their bodies, and equitable access to systems that are free from weight bias.
Values
Liberation | We believe that “No one is free until we are all free,” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and aim to ground our work in anti-racist, gender affirming, queer positive, accessible, feminist, anti-capitalist, and fat liberation principles and actions.
Community | We believe community is the foundation of liberation and through community we can create liberatory practices and systems as alternatives to and demand change from oppressive systems.
Health Equity | We believe that all people deserve access to health, wellbeing, and care promoting activities and environments, from healthcare, physical activity, and food to clean water and air, mental health support, and safety.
Multidimensional Wellness | We believe that health and wellbeing includes mental, emotional, financial, sexual, spiritual, environmental, and physical wellness. We believe that what constitutes wellbeing, and what aspects are prioritized, can and should vary by community and individual.
Health Abolition | We recognize that in a white supremecist and patriarchal society, Health is not accessible by the majority. Health has been defined by, and the Healthcare system has been created by and for, white cisgender men. We believe that for true community care to flourish, the current conceptions of Health and Healthcare must be disrupted.
Size Diversity | We believe that people are diverse in size and shape and reject systems that pathologize people based on weight or size.
